Before the tragic fire took the lives of his loved ones, Mr. Peden was unaware of the potential dangers associated with lithium-ion batteries. Having purchased the battery online, he never anticipated that it could pose such a significant risk to his family’s safety. Unlike the current system where companies can self-declare the safety of their products, Mr. Peden emphasizes the need for a more rigorous process to ensure consumer safety and prevent further loss of life.
