The recent conviction of David DePape for attacking Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer has sent shockwaves through the community. This horrific incident took place during a break-in at the Pelosi’s San Francisco home in 2022.
The attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, left him with a fractured skull. He recounted waking up to a “very large man” wielding a hammer and zip ties, demanding to know the whereabouts of Nancy Pelosi. The fact that Nancy Pelosi was in Washington, D.C. at the time of the break-in spared her from harm, but the traumatic experience has surely left a lasting impact on both Pelosi and her husband.
During the state trial, DePape’s lawyer, San Francisco Public Defender Adam Lipson, argued that DePape had been influenced by extremist propaganda and conspiracy theories, leading him to commit the heinous crime.
