Ice Cube Provides Update on Fourth Installment of Friday Franchise

Ice Cube, a former member of N.W.A., recently discussed the progress of the much-anticipated fourth installment of the Friday franchise. It has been over two decades since the last sequel was released, and fans have been eagerly awaiting any news on the continuation of the beloved series.

In a recent interview on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show, Ice Cube revealed that there has been some progress with Warner Bros. in developing the new movie. The actor and rapper mentioned that Warner Bros. has new leadership, with Mike DeLuca at the helm, who was previously at New Line Cinema during the production of the original Friday movie.

Ice Cube co-wrote the first Friday film in 1995, in which he also starred as the main character, Craig Jones. The movie followed Craig’s misadventures in South Central Los Angeles alongside his friend, Smokey, portrayed by Chris Tucker. The success of the first film led to two sequels, Next Friday in 2000 and Friday After Next in 2002.

Despite expressing interest in a fourth entry as early as 2011, Ice Cube faced challenges with New Line Cinema, leading to delays in the project. He voiced his frustration with Warner Bros., the studio behind the franchise, for taking too long to move forward with the sequel. Sadly, the passing of key cast members, such as John Witherspoon, Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister Jr., and Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson, added to the complications of the production.

Ice Cube remains optimistic about the future of the Friday franchise, emphasizing that the key to moving forward is to ensure that the movie is done right. He acknowledged that Warner Bros. has now shown more interest in making the film, raising hopes that fans will soon get to see the long-awaited fourth installment.

Ice Cube’s update on the Friday franchise offers a glimmer of hope for fans who have been eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the iconic series. With Warner Bros. on board and a renewed sense of dedication to the project, it seems that the fourth installment of Friday may finally become a reality.
