Apple Intelligence features, including the Writing Tools, were showcased in a preview last month through the iOS 15.1 Developer Beta 1 update. This update also included similar beta releases for iPadOS and macOS Sequoia. One user who had early access to these artificial intelligence (AI) features recently posted a demo showcasing the functionality of the Writing Tools feature.
The user, known as AppleLeaker (@LeakerApple) on social media, shared a video demonstrating the Writing Tools in action. In the demo, a floating window displayed options such as Proofread, Rewrite (with tone options like Friendly, Professional, and Concise), Summary, and more. The user copied and pasted a 2,203-word Wikipedia article about OLED to test the proofreading capabilities of the AI tool.
According to the user, the AI tool proofread the entire 2,203-word document in under two minutes with a single command. The proofreading process was broken down into segments of 350 words each. The user also noted that the character limit for Apple Intelligence was significantly higher than Samsung’s Galaxy AI, which reportedly has a limit of “500 characters”.
Gadgets 360 staff members investigated the character limit for AI summarization with Apple Intelligence and found that it could handle up to 9,917 characters with spaces, or 8,413 characters without spaces. In comparison, Samsung’s support page mentioned that text characters between 200-4,000 are needed to utilize the AI features in the Notes app. Despite the user’s claim of a 500-character limit for Galaxy AI, Apple Intelligence still appears to outperform in this aspect.
While the user’s demonstration of Apple Intelligence’s proofreading capabilities is impressive, it’s important to note that this is based on a single source. Whether Apple Intelligence can truly surpass Galaxy AI can be determined once Apple officially releases the feature to the public. As of now, the potential of Apple Intelligence in terms of summarization and rewriting remains to be explored further.
