Boeing, the renowned aircraft manufacturer, recently urged airlines to conduct inspections on their 737 Max planes. This recommendation comes after an international operator discovered a loose bolt during routine maintenance on the rudder control system. In response, Boeing has advised all operators to inspect their aircraft for any similar issues.
The quality issue identified by the airline involved a missing nut on a bolt within the rudder-control linkage. Upon further investigation, Boeing also discovered an undelivered aircraft with a nut that had not been properly tightened. Although the specific aircraft affected by the issue has already been remedied, Boeing is taking a proactive approach to ensure the safety and reliability of all 737 Max planes.
To address this potential quality concern, Boeing has recommended that all airlines conduct inspections on their 737 Max planes. Each inspection is estimated to take approximately two hours per aircraft. Additionally, Boeing has stated that all new 737 Max planes will undergo this inspection before being handed over to customers.
A number of airlines have already expressed their intent to comply with Boeing’s recommendation. Alaska Airlines, for instance, plans to initiate inspections on Thursday and expects to complete them within the first half of January. Despite these inspections, airlines like Alaska Airlines and United Airlines do not anticipate any operational impact as a result of the quality issue.
