CineEurope: Disney Dominates Box Office with Inside Out 2 and Marvel Releases

Disney’s Head of Global Theatrical Distribution, Tony Chambers, expressed gratitude towards exhibitors for their contribution to the massive $295M worldwide debut of Inside Out 2. The film’s midweek numbers continued to impress, reaching a global total of $380M through Tuesday. Chambers commended the collective efforts of markets, exhibitors, and partners worldwide in making the film a success.

Lee Jury, Head of Marketing for EMEA, hyped up Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine as a “kick-ass feel-good movie” during the CineEurope presentation. Ryan Reynolds, portraying Deadpool, introduced 12 minutes of footage that resonated well with the audience. Additionally, a sneak peek of Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, featuring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, was showcased, promising a return to the political thriller genre. Thunderbolts, focusing on misfit villains from the MCU, also teased viewers with a behind-the-scenes look.

Director Fede Alvarez presented extended footage of Alien: Romulus, highlighting the challenges and excitement of reviving the iconic sci-fi franchise. The film is set to hit theaters in mid-August, promising a fresh take on the Alien universe. Disney Animation’s Moana 2 was also teased during the event, hinting at another exciting adventure for fans of the beloved animated film.

Rebecca Kearey, Head of International and Business Operations at Searchlight, celebrated the triumph of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-winning film, Poor Things. She also shared insights into upcoming projects like Rental Family, starring Brendan Fraser as an actor immersed in Japanese culture. The Roses, a film directed by Jay Roach and featuring Olivia Coleman and Benedict Cumberbatch, is also in the pipeline for Searchlight.
