Disney has recently announced that it will be raising prices on its streaming platforms starting in mid-October. Most plans for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ will see an increase of $1 to $2 per month. The most expensive Hulu plans, which include live TV, will have a significant increase of $6 per month. Additionally, Disney+ basic and premium plans will now be priced at $9.99 and $15.99, respectively. Hulu with ads will now cost $9.99 monthly, while Hulu without ads will cost $18.99 per month. ESPN+ with ads will see a price increase to $11.99 per month.
The price hikes come as Disney continues to encourage customers to opt for bundle options to get more value for their money. Disney has been offering a bundle of its own services for some time, with choices like Hulu and Disney+, or the two streaming services plus ESPN+. The existing bundle of Disney+ and Hulu with ads will also see a price increase to $10.99 per month. However, the bundle without ads will remain priced at $19.99 per month. Disney has also collaborated with Warner Bros. Discovery to provide a bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu, and Max, offering a more cost-effective option for subscribers.
In addition to the price increases, Disney is also introducing new features to entice subscribers. Starting September 4, all subscribers will have access to ABC News Live and a playlist with preschool content. Premium subscribers will also have access to four more curated playlists. According to Alisa Bowen, president of the streaming platform, these playlists are meant to enhance the overall subscriber experience and provide added value.
Disney’s move to raise prices on its streaming services comes ahead of its fiscal third-quarter earnings report, expected to be released soon. The company continues to focus on providing a wide range of content and offerings to appeal to subscribers and drive growth in its streaming platforms. With the introduction of new bundles and features, Disney is positioning itself to remain competitive in the ever-evolving streaming market.
