Donald Trump Continues to Deny Rape Allegations Despite Legal Consequences

Donald Trump reiterated his denial of writer E. Jean Carroll’s rape and defamation claims against him during an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” Despite facing nearly $90 million in civil penalties over similar denials, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee dismissed the judgments against him in New York as “ridiculous decisions.”

Carroll first publicly accused Trump of raping her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman in the mid-1990s. In response, Trump denied the rape claim and accused Carroll of trying to sell books. As a result, Carroll sued Trump in New York federal court for defamation. In 2022, Carroll filed a second lawsuit against Trump for battery and defamation relating to the alleged rape and a subsequent denial after he left the White House.

Despite Trump’s persistent denials, a federal civil jury awarded Carroll $5 million in damages in one case and ordered Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming her in another case. Trump is currently appealing both verdicts and has posted substantial bonds to secure the judgments while his appeals are pending. Additionally, Trump has faced legal battles in New York, resulting in significant fines and interest, which he claims will drive companies out of the state.

During the CNBC interview, Trump expressed concern that his legal battles in New York, including the recent civil judgments against him, could deter companies from operating in the state. He suggested that the legal actions taken against him are damaging New York’s reputation and discouraging businesses from establishing themselves there.

Donald Trump’s continued denial of rape allegations made by E. Jean Carroll has resulted in significant legal consequences and civil judgments against him. Despite facing substantial financial penalties and adverse court rulings, Trump remains steadfast in his refusal to acknowledge the validity of the claims made against him. The ongoing legal battles have not only tarnished Trump’s reputation but also raised concerns about the impact on New York’s business environment.
