Oppo’s Vision on Artificial Intelligence

Oppo has showcased its commitment to artificial intelligence (AI) by unveiling its efforts to bring AI innovations to users and its future plans. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has introduced various AI features to select smartphones in China earlier this year through the ColorOS New Year Edition update. This initiative was further expanded globally to more devices, signaling Oppo’s dedication to integrating AI into its products.

In a significant move, Oppo announced the establishment of its AI Centre in Shenzhen. This centre will serve as the hub for driving AI innovation within the company. By centralizing its AI efforts in this dedicated location, Oppo aims to streamline its development processes and ensure the timely delivery of AI features to its users.

According to Oppo’s press release, the company is committed to bringing AI features to smartphones across various price points by the end of 2024. This ambitious goal includes not only existing AI features but also new ones that will be introduced in the upcoming months. Oppo plans to offer a wide range of GenAI features, with the possibility of surpassing the 100 mark in the near future.

In addition to its AI Centre, Oppo has established an AI R&D Centre to further its technological advancements. The company is actively developing proprietary technologies and has filed over 5,399 AI patents worldwide. These patents cover various aspects of AI, with a significant focus on AI imaging, where Oppo holds 3,796 patents.

Oppo has partnered with leading tech companies such as Google and Microsoft, as well as chipset manufacturers like MediaTek and Qualcomm, to enhance its AI capabilities. By collaborating with these industry giants, Oppo aims to leverage their expertise in areas such as image processing, computer vision, speech technology, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning.

Emphasizing its commitment to data security and privacy, Oppo has pledged not to use user data for training models. The company has implemented a robust data security and privacy protection system, which includes third-party certifications, end-to-end encryption, and confidential computing technology. These measures are designed to ensure that user data remains private and secure.

Oppo is working closely with Microsoft to deliver a seamless natural voice and text conversion experience to its users. By leveraging Microsoft’s Fast Transcription and Neural TTS technologies, Oppo aims to enhance the overall user experience on its devices. The company is also collaborating with Google to power some of its flagship devices with Gemini LLM, further expanding its AI capabilities.

In collaboration with MediaTek, Oppo is developing chipsets equipped with dedicated AI processing units, also known as Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and accelerators. By working closely with MediaTek, Oppo is optimizing its hardware and software stack to deliver AI features that enhance the overall performance and user experience of its devices.

Oppo’s vision on artificial intelligence demonstrates its strong commitment to integrating AI into its products and delivering innovative features to its users. By establishing dedicated AI centres, collaborating with industry leaders, and prioritizing data security and privacy, Oppo is well-positioned to lead the AI revolution in the smartphone industry.
