Porsche has made a groundbreaking announcement by introducing the first-ever production hybrid version of its iconic 911 sports car – the 2025 911 Carrera GTS. This move signals a significant shift in the automotive industry towards electrification, as well as a commitment to meeting stringent fuel economy standards.
According to Frank Moser, Porsche’s vice president of the 911 and 718 model lines, the decision to create a hybrid 911 was carefully considered to ensure that it would maintain the vehicle’s legendary driving dynamics. The result is a unique powertrain that is seamlessly integrated into the overall concept of the car, delivering a significant boost in performance.
The 911 Carrera GTS hybrid is no slouch when it comes to speed and power. With the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds – 0.3 seconds faster than the previous non-hybrid GTS model – and a top track speed of 194 mph, this hybrid sports car is sure to turn heads on the road. It is equipped with a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer hybrid engine that produces an impressive 532 horsepower and 449 foot-pounds of torque.
For those interested in owning this piece of automotive history, the 911 Carrera GTS hybrid will be available as a coupe starting at $164,900, while the convertible version will start at $178,200. Both models will be offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Orders are currently being accepted, with deliveries expected to U.S. dealers by the end of 2024.
Porsche’s decision to introduce hybrid vehicles to its lineup reflects a broader trend in the automotive industry towards electrification. The company currently offers a range of electrified models, including plug-in hybrid Cayenne and Panamera models, as well as the all-electric Taycan. These updates include enhancements to the exterior and interior designs, such as a fully digital driver instrument cluster for the first time, improved engine performance, and upgraded standard equipment like rear-axle steering for added stability. The new 911 models are expected to arrive in U.S. showrooms in the fall.
