Former President Donald Trump recently took to Truth Social to criticize two key witnesses in his upcoming New York hush money trial. Trump questioned whether Mark POMERANTZ and Michael Cohen have faced prosecution for their actions, in clear violation of the gag order placed on him regarding public statements about witnesses and jurors.
Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, is set to testify in the trial. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to charges related to hush money payments made on behalf of an unnamed candidate, who he is expected to identify as Trump. Mark POMERANTZ, a former prosecutor, played a significant role in investigating Trump’s hush money payments before stepping down from the case in 2022.
Upcoming Trial
The trial, scheduled to begin jury selection soon, will focus on 34 counts related to falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016. To review new evidence, the start date was delayed from March 25. Judge Juan Merchan, overseeing the case, initially imposed a gag order on Trump, which was later extended due to his repeated attacks on the judge’s daughter’s political affiliations.
Despite the gag order, Trump has continuously pushed its limits by making public statements about the case. Calling Cohen and Daniels “sleaze bags” on social media and expressing a willingness to go to jail for violating the order, Trump has faced consequences for similar actions in the past. In October, he was fined $10,000 for disobeying a gag order in a separate trial.
