Goran Stolevski’s Housekeeping for Beginners Gets Theatrical Release Date

Focus Features has announced that Goran Stolevski’s latest film, Housekeeping for Beginners, will hit theaters on January 26, 2024. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in the official “Orizzonti” section, where it won the prestigious Queer Lion Award. It was also chosen as North Macedonia’s submission for the international Oscar race.

Housekeeping for Beginners explores the intricate dynamics of family, delving into both the bonds we inherit and the ones we create. The narrative revolves around Dita, a woman who unexpectedly finds herself raising her girlfriend’s two daughters, Mia and Vanesa. Mia is a mischievous troublemaker, while Vanesa is a rebellious teenager. As their conflicting personalities clash, the film presents a heartwarming story about an unconventional family’s struggle to stay together.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Anamaria Marinca, Alina Serban, Samson Selim, Vladimir Tintor, Mia Mustafa, Dzada Selim, Sara Klimoska, Rozafë Çelaj, and Ajse Useini. These talented actors bring the complex characters to life and elevate the emotional depth of the story.

Goran Stolevski, the director of Housekeeping for Beginners, has previously collaborated with Focus Features on two other projects, namely You Won’t Be Alone and Of An Age. Stolevski is recognized as a rising talent in the film industry, known for his unique voice and compelling storytelling.

Housekeeping for Beginners is a collaborative effort by List Production, Madants, Kinorama, Sense Production, and Industria Film. The film is produced in association with Film I Väst, CommonGround Pictures, and Causeway Films, with additional support from Tango, New Europe Film Sales, and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund. It received crucial funding from the North Macedonian Film Agency, Croatian Audiovisual Center, Film Center Serbia, Polish Film Institute, and Kosovo Cinematography Center.

In the United States, Focus Features will handle the distribution of Housekeeping for Beginners, while Universal Pictures International will oversee international distribution, with the exception of Eastern Europe.
