Marvin Harrison Jr. Contemplating Return to Ohio State for Senior Season

Ohio State junior wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who is ranked No. 2 on Mel Kiper Jr.’s Big Board ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, is currently weighing his options for his senior season. Despite his high ranking and impressive stats, Harrison is considering returning to Columbus to pursue unfinished goals with the Buckeyes.

Harrison expressed his desire to beat their rivals, “The Team Up North” (Michigan), and win a Big Ten championship. Unfortunately, Ohio State fell short of these goals in the current season. Reflecting on this, Harrison sees it as a motivation to return for his senior year. Not having achieved these milestones opens the possibility for him to come back and give it another shot.

Harrison has had a phenomenal junior season, making him one of the top wide receiver prospects. He is vying for the Biletnikoff Award, along with LSU’s Malik Nabers and Washington’s Rome Odunze. During the 2023 season, Harrison became the first Buckeyes receiver to achieve consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, with 1,263 yards in 2022 and 1,211 yards in 2023. Additionally, he has scored at least one touchdown reception in eight consecutive games.

His close bond with his high school teammate, quarterback Kyle McCord, adds another dimension to his decision-making process. McCord recently entered the transfer portal after leading Ohio State to an impressive 11-1 record. Harrison expressed his support for McCord and mentioned their strong connection both on and off the field. Their friendship extends beyond football, making McCord’s departure a bittersweet moment for Harrison.

Harrison made a name for himself during Ohio State’s victory over Utah in the 2022 Rose Bowl Game. As a freshman, he showcased his skills by catching six passes for 71 yards and three touchdowns in their 48-45 win. However, it is the consecutive losses to Michigan, including this season’s defeat, that continues to haunt Harrison. The 30-24 loss in Ann Arbor, where he contributed with five receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, still lingers in his mind.

While Harrison appreciates the recognition he has received individually, he believes winning against their rival and reaching the Big Ten championship game would hold more value. The disappointment of not achieving these goals has been tough to bear. However, he emphasizes the unity and resilience of the team in facing these challenges.

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s potential return to Ohio State for his senior season demonstrates his dedication and desire to accomplish unfinished business with the Buckeyes. Despite his standing as one of the top prospects for the upcoming NFL draft, he is willing to prioritize team success over individual accolades. With his exceptional skills and determination, Harrison brings a strong presence to the Ohio State offense. Whether he ultimately decides to return or pursue a professional career, his time with the Buckeyes has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the program.
