Russian forces have once again launched a series of relentless attacks on the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine. Avdiivka, known for its massive coking plant and its proximity to the Russian-held regional hub of Donetsk, has been a primary target of Russian encirclement and capture since mid-October. The head of Avdiivka’s military administration, Vitaliy Barabash, has described the recent attacks as the “fiercest” yet on the embattled town. According to Barabash, Russian forces are carrying out up to 18 air attacks per day, and sometimes even more. This continuous bombardment has caused immense suffering and destruction in Avdiivka.
The southern region of Kherson has also witnessed the horrifying consequences of Russian aggression. Local officials report that Russian shelling in Kherson has resulted in the deaths of three men and a woman. Ukrainian forces have been engaged in a counteroffensive in the east and south of the country, trying to protect the innocent civilians and restore peace. However, the relentless attacks by Russian forces have made it incredibly challenging for Ukrainian forces to mitigate the loss of lives and the widespread destruction in the region.
While the world watches the conflict between Ukraine and Russia with growing concern, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his officials continue to make empty promises. They often claim that the Kremlin is ready to negotiate and end the war. However, these statements must be taken with a grain of salt, as the actions of the Russian forces on the ground contradict the rhetoric coming from the Kremlin.
