The Comedy of Postpartum Depression: Another Happy Day

Carrie Coon, known for her roles in “The Gilded Age” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” is teaming up with Lauren Lapkus in a new comedy film titled, “Another Happy Day.” The film, which marks the feature debut of writer-director Nora Fiffer, explores the hilarious struggles of postpartum depression. Set to make its world premiere at the Vail Film Festival on December 9th, the movie promises to offer a fresh perspective on the challenges faced by new mothers.

The story revolves around Joanna (Lapkus), a self-proclaimed “total nut” who is finding it incredibly difficult to navigate the world of motherhood. She candidly admits, “I’m not really a mom, I just have a baby, you know?” As an artist, she also grapples with the fact that her creativity has taken a backseat since becoming a mother.

Joanna’s life is a chaotic mess. She can’t seem to regain her identity, as her old job and friends have moved on without her. To make matters worse, her husband believes he is a better mother than she is. With severe sleep deprivation and the constant feeling of incompetence, Joanna struggles to connect with her baby, who won’t even look at her.

In her desperate search for companionship, Joanna unexpectedly forms a bond with her estranged aunt-in-law. This unlikely friendship provides both of them with a much-needed lifeline. The ensemble cast also includes Jessie Holder Tourtellotte, Marilyn Dodds Frank, and Jean Elie, adding depth and humor to the story.

Apart from her role, Carrie Coon also executive produced “Another Happy Day” alongside Lapkus and Eugene Sun Park. The film is a collaboration between Red Squirrel Films, Inherent Films, Chicago Media Angels, and Production Resource Group. With the combined efforts of producers Tourtellotte, Fiffer, and UPM Quinn Nicholson, the movie promises to deliver a unique and authentic portrayal of the challenges faced by new mothers.

UTA Independent Film Group and Circus Road Films have taken charge of sales for the film, ensuring that it reaches a wider audience. This partnership signifies the industry’s recognition of the film’s potential to resonate with audiences and create meaningful conversations.
