The Durability of Google Pixel 8 Pro: A Promising Contender

Google’s latest flagship smartphone, the Pixel 8 Pro, has been making headlines since its recent launch. With its sleek design and advanced features, consumers are eagerly waiting to get their hands on this device. One aspect that has garnered significant attention is the durability of the Pixel 8 Pro. In this article, we will analyze the phone’s durability through various “drop” and “scratch” tests conducted by YouTube users.

YouTube user PBKReviews conducted a series of drop tests to assess the Pixel 8 Pro’s ability to withstand accidental drops. The initial waist-level drop showcased the phone’s resilience as the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protected display remained unscathed despite hitting the ground. However, minor scuff marks were observed on the edges of the device.

Moving on to the head-level drop, some scratches were noticed on the metallic frame’s corners, but the front and rear glass panels remained intact. Dropping the phone with the rear panel facing downwards caused scratches on the rear panel and the horizontal metallic camera module. Meanwhile, dropping the device on its side led to damage in the top left corner of the display, although the phone continued to function normally.

Aside from drop tests, the Pixel 8 Pro was also subjected to a scratch test. The phone was placed inside a Ziploc bag with sand, and the display was rubbed against the surface of the sand. Despite this abrasive environment, the Pixel 8 Pro only acquired minimal scratches on the display and remained unaffected by the test. This noteworthy performance indicates the phone’s resistance to everyday scratches and potential wear.

Comparisons were made between the Pixel 8 Pro and other flagship smartphones, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The Pixel 8 Pro outperformed the Galaxy S23 Ultra in drop tests, as the latter suffered from cracks. Moreover, claims were made that the Pixel 8 Pro displayed superior durability when pitted against the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

While the Pixel 8 Pro has yet to undergo Zack Nelson’s (JerryRigEverything) bend test on YouTube, the early indications of durability are certainly encouraging. The combination of a sturdy build and robust performance bodes well for the phone’s longevity.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro’s durability tests have provided positive insights into the smartphone’s ability to survive real-world damage. While drop and scratch tests do not offer conclusive evidence of a device’s overall durability, they do provide an initial assessment.

Considering the premium price tag attached to the Pixel 8 Pro, it is imperative for it to offer a strong build quality. Google’s promise of 7 years of OS, feature, and security updates underscores its commitment to ensuring the longevity of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. With its impressive performance in durability tests, the Pixel 8 Pro emerges as a promising contender in the flagship smartphone market. Whether it can live up to the expectations of consumers and maintain its durability over time remains to be seen.
