The Packers’ opening drive was dominated by Jones, who showcased his exceptional skills by carrying the ball seven times for 25 yards. This allowed the Packers to hold the ball for an impressive seven minutes and 52 seconds, making it the longest opening drive in a playoff game since the New England Patriots in 2018.
Jones wasn’t finished after his initial touchdown. Thanks to an interception by Jaire Alexander, the Packers quickly gained possession of the ball and had a short field to work with. Jones capitalized on this opportunity and found the end zone once again, this time from 1 yard out. This touchdown further extended the Packers’ lead to 14-0, just 45 seconds into the second quarter.
As the game progressed, the Packers continued to showcase their offensive prowess. Backup quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks connected for a 20-yard touchdown pass, further widening the gap between the Packers and the Cowboys. Love, who had an impressive regular season performance on third downs, threw 14 touchdown passes in those situations, just one short of the most in the league, held by Patrick Mahomes.
Less than two minutes later, Packers safety Darnell Savage intercepted a pass from Dak Prescott and returned it for a 64-yard pick-six. This remarkable play further solidified the Packers’ dominance in the game, as they extended their lead to a commanding 27-0 with just 1:50 remaining in the first half. At this point, the Packers’ interception return yards (64) outweighed Prescott’s passing yards (61).
